Abdominal Separation

Abdominal Separation

Separation of the rectus abdominis muscles is normal during pregnancy. It can take several months for these muscles to recover and knit back together. Diastasis Recti is when this separation is significant. Weakening of these muscles causes weakening of the core muscles which contributes to back pain (and that stubborn postnatal tummy). HOWEVER with help these muscles can be healed altogether or greatly improved reducing or eliminating pain. Check out my video for checking for diastasis recti which you can request on the Postnatal Mummy and Wellness page. Postnatal yoga will address the healing, recovery and strengthening of these muscles through core stabilising exercises.
